Sunday Sept 5: Hit all our local mountains.
« on: 09/02/10 01:39PM »
WHEN: Sunday Sept 5, at 9:00 am (KSU time, so arrive before)
MEET: Chevron at the corner of Red Hill & MacArthur (see map link below)
ROUTE: See map below
SKILL LEVEL: Noobie, Intermediate, Expert*

458 miles and about 9.0 hour riding (not counting stops).
It's a concept ride I had on my mind for a while: Hit all our local mountains.
It's totally OK if you just want to do Angeles Crest and then wimp-out at some point after.

Map of the route   <-- Click me.
Point A: Start and gas station: Chevron at the corner of Red Hill & MacArthur.
Point B: Gas station: Shell at corner of Foothill Blvd and Oro Vista Ave in Sunland. Second meetup location: Be here before 10 am and wait for me.
Point C: 10 min break: Newcomb's ranch.
Point D: Gas station: Shell on Hwy 138 and Fwy 15 in Cajon pass.
Point E: Lunch break: Denny's in Big Bear.
Point F: Gas station: Shell on Sandalwood Dr and Calimesa Blvd in Calimesa.
Point G: 10 min break: Lake Fulmor.
Point H: Gas station: Mobil in Anza. Temptation: Dairy Queen.
Point I: 10 min break: Mother's Kitchen on Palomar mtn.
Point J: Gas station: Mobil in Temecula.
Point K: End at gas station: Mobil at the corner of Main & MacArthur.

************* Skill Levels Defined:
Noobie -You have been riding your motorcycle for at least 3 months (hopefully more) and have confidence that you can ride around streets without any issues eg. stopping at stop lights, not stalling the bike, not falling over etc, making u-turns, etc.
Intermediate - You have been riding for at least 6 months (hopefully more) and feel comfortable enough to handle twisty roads as found in local canyons. You are mature enough to understand going slow is okay and not to try and keep up with riders that are faster than you as it will result in a crash.
Expert - You have been riding for years and hopefully been riding with the members going on the ride long enough to know how they ride.

Do it man. I have been wanting to ride with you again. Or in truth, lag way behind as you speed off into the next corner  :32:

This type of ride actually crossed my mind last time home from ACH as well. It's totally doable if you cut out all the long food breaks.

Darn Jerome, you know I'd be up for some Team Insanity rides, but unfortunately I'm out of town for the long weekend.

Otherwise, I would have gotten a bathmat like Scott has and try out a long ride.

Yikes...I wouldn't be able to complete this ride if my life depended on it.  I'd need some Vicodin and Ibuprofen to survive for my shoulder (injury) and my butt (just soreness from the seat)

I have an uncomfortable seat but noticed that a 5-10 minute break "resets my ass" and then it is OK for another hour of riding.
This ride has been planned accordingly, with plenty of breaks so portions don't significantly exceed 1 continuous hour of riding.

Don't let your ass stop you,

I'd get an "F" on this run. I was to' up pretty good form our only 5 / 6 hour Ortega and Beyon run last weekend. Last 20 miles to home and I was "Jezzus Christ if there was one more hour tacked onto this run...."

Looks rad, but gotta admit. Being on the bike for more than 8 hours (riding time) or 400 miles really starts to suck big ones.

Just mount up. If you cover two of the destinations, then peel off, isn't that still worth it?  :27: You don't have to do it all. I mean, it's only minor public humiliation if you tap out, right?   :32:

Jerome, I may be up for this one, I'll let you know...I've done it many times and it isn't that bad. Enough turns your backside is never too still for too long. Although we'd normally would start around 7am to get a jump on some of the weekend drivers.

I'll let you know Saturday if in or not. I'm also doing prep work this weekend and packing for a trip to Montana to go off roading/single track stuff with JN Roberts and Malcolm Smith along with about 14 other guys.
